一直以来，C社的游戏都是一个猛男主角在战斗，可是混沌军团的出现改变了这一点，军团嘛，所以你不是一个人，你有那么多各种各样的小弟追随你战斗，很显然，单P不如群殴，满屏的怪物向你袭来，在混沌军团中你也可以体验真三国无双给你带来的爽快感，再加上那犀利的小弟，你会发现战斗变得如此有趣，一句话，无兄弟，无战斗！
游戏舞台设立在一个由法与秩序所统治的世界Arcana。这块大陆最早的起源便是由封印着创世神力量的“圣柜”所诞生的神圣之地，并由守护着法与秩序的“圣Ovelia教团”控制，对在世界各地因为“暗”而诞生的邪恶势力给予正义的制裁，同时赐予各地人民“圣”之奇迹所产生的慈悲与恩惠。而故事的开端，便是从教团之长新法王继任的那一刻开始。
玩家在游戏中将面临数量极为庞大的敌对恶魔。
年轻的新任法王Victor Delacroix为了探索禁典中的封印解除之术而失去下落，而教团也因为Victor Delacroix投身黑暗而决定追捕他。至于追捕的人选，便是玩家所要担任的主角，能够使用禁忌的黑之圣印力量的黑印骑士团的年轻剑士，同时也是Victor Delacroix好朋友的Sieg Wahrheit。而这两个人的行动，将使整个世界的命运随之波动……
玩家可以召唤出大量恶魔
以圣经马太福音中所说的恶魔之名“Legion”作为本作名称的这款《混沌军团》，所指的便是藉由召唤异世界的魂魄来守护现实世界的主人的意思。因此本作与其他Capcom的动作游戏一个很大的不同之处，便是玩家将不再是一个人在战场奋勇杀敌，强调“军团”间的作战，玩家可以召唤出自己的部队与无数袭击而来的魔兽展开战斗。
可召唤的恶魔虽然很强大，但是主人公也不是吃素的，小弟们跟着，我管多少，各种华丽的剑技足够你杀开一条血路，告诉它们，什么才是不死小强！
另外，在玩家与魔兽战斗的时候，还可以根据战况的不同召唤出各种拥有不同能力的恶魔。玩家可以召唤的恶魔军团有7种之多，每个军团使用的武器和能力都不同，有弓箭、刀剑甚至炸弹等。通过战斗中得到的经验值，玩家还可以为恶魔军团进行特殊能力追加、攻击力增加等内容的升级，以获得最强大的召唤恶魔。
PC版提供有中文字幕
游戏的PC版最大的特色就在于使用英文作为配音语言，并提供了包括中文（简体和繁体）在内的8种语言字幕，使得全球大多数的玩家都不再会因为语言的障碍而影响到游戏的感觉。
另外，PC版也提供了比PS2版更高的图像分辨率。从游戏之前发布的Demo来看，画面采用了全3D建模，人物和恶魔用的多边形比较多，看起来还算圆滑的。
